While in India we visited a Sikh Temple. A little background, sikhs are an ethnic minority in India and comprise of 2% of India’s population. It is a monotheistic religion and the word “sikh” means to learn.
We went there for what they call “Langar.” Langar is a free meal given by sikhs to anyone who comes to their temple and asks for it. They provide these meals irrespective of the person’s religious beliefs. All the food is donated and cooked by sikhs as a symbol of their devotion.
We were very touched by the tradition. We learned that they are sending a Sikh-langar-2bout a 100,000 meals to Nepal daily to help with the recent earthquake.
